DESCRIPTION:Cohesion Dance Project celebrates 10 years of Shira Greenberg’s Nutcracker on the Rocks in Helena on Saturday\, November 30 and Sunday\, December 1\, 2024 at the Helena Civic Center. Featuring the music of James Brown\, Aretha Franklin\, The Rolling Stones\, Janis Joplin and more\, this community based\, rock-n-roll rendition of the holiday classic showcases a unique and energetic fusion of dancers and dance styles\, along with a roaring Harley Davidson on stage! Leading audiences on a thrilling journey through the decades\, Nutcracker on the Rocks artistically blends community dancers with professional visiting guest artists in creative partnerships and energetic collaborations\, seamlessly weaving people of all ages and abilities\, including those with disabilities\, into the fabric of the choreography. \nNutcracker on the Rocks originated in Albuquerque\, NM\, and was performed there for 20 years. Helena now holds the prestigious honor of being the only location where this innovative production is staged. \nThe 2024 cast includes nearly 70 community dancers of all ages and abilities performing alongside professional visiting guest artists from across the country. Local lead dancers include Téa Woodland as the Rat Queen and Laura Brown as Marie. Visiting artists returning to the Helena stage are Missoula-based Rebecca White as Madame Drosselmeier and NYC-based Alex Ptelikapich who most recently graced the Grandstreet stage this summer as Race in Newsies! \nDon’t miss the excitement of Nutcracker on the Rocks this Thanksgiving weekend!

SUMMARY:Musikanten Lessons and Carols Service
DESCRIPTION:Musikanten Montana\, conducted by Kerry Krebill\, will sing a traditional Advent Service of 9 Lessons and Carols at 7 pm\, Wednesday\, Dec. 18 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cathedral\, 511 N. Park (next to the YWCA).\nPatterned after the King’s College historic celebration at Cambridge\, England\, the most widely observed Advent service in the world\, the service includes 9 scripture readings – from the creation and the Garden of Eden\, to the Prophets and John the Baptist and finally the Angel Gabriel’s appearance to Mary. Beginning with a child\, the Lessons are read by members of the St. Peter’s and the community\, concluding with Bishop Marty Stebbins.\nFollowing each lesson is an anthem by the choir or carol sung by all. Organist Wendy Yuen will play a prelude and postlude. Featured music this year includes works of Palestrina\, Hammerschmidt\, Gibbons\, Poston\, Howells and Mendelssohn.\nSt. Peter’s Episcopal Church Women are again presenting this Advent program as a gift to the Helena Community.
