Each session will begin with a “Meet and Greet” to meet the artist! Students will learn the artist’s name and a short history of their life before then exploring notable work. Once the class has met the artist\, we will then begin working with that artist’s preferred medium on a piece of our own. The final half of the hour of the class is an open studio exploration with students welcome to continue working on the day’s pieces\, start a new piece\, or return to work from past sessions. Goodman will demonstrate her use of graphical scores and graphical synthesis to transform pictures into sound using one of the world’s rarest and most fascinating electronic instruments: the Theremin. Participants can create and interpret their own visual soundscapes using provided art materials (Tempera KWIK STIX on poster paper)\, take turns playing the Theremin\, and learn about the Virtual ANS Synthesizer. SUMMARY:Everybody Dance Now – a dance party fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Cohesion Dance Project is hosting a dance party\, “Everybody Dance Now\,” on Saturday\, May 4\, 2024 from 5-10:30pm at the Holter Museum of Art. \nThe event will feature a lively mix of music genres from the 1970s through 2000s to current\, by DJ Matt Schmidt. Specific times will focus on certain music styles/ages\, but attendees can come for all or a portion of the evening. \n5-6pm: Kids Bop – Family Dance\n6-7pm: TicTok Radio\n7-10:30pm: Everybody Dance Now! \nAll ages are welcome. No dance experience is required\, just a desire to have fun and let loose on the dance floor. Brief instruction in genre specific dance styles will be infused throughout the evening for those wanting to brush up on or learn some new moves. Light snacks will be available along with non-alcoholic beverages and a no-host cash bar. \nThe event supports Cohesion’s School & Community Outreach fund. This program provides enriching movement arts experiences that support physical\, mental\, emotional and cognitive well-being for people with and without disabilities\, from preschool ages through older adults\, in schools\, special education classrooms\, senior living facilities\, group homes and more. \nTickets are $25 for adults and $15 for youth under 18\, available at cohesiondance.org. DESCRIPTION:What is the ChromaDepth effect? ChromaDepth refers to the perception of color by depth\, with the rainbow spectrum taking on dimension. Red appears near\, blue appears far. Using ChromaDepth glasses can cause paintings to take on a 3-D effect. This effect can often be seen in Haunted Houses to create spatial effects.\nArtist Instructor Dallas Ryder will guide participants through the process of painting in ChromaDepth while also explaining the science behind the effect. Be prepared to have interactive conversations\, get a little messy\, and experience the freedom of painting! \nWhat is a “wet medium”? Wet is any media (art material) that flows. Put another way\, any media that uses a liquid to deliver pigment/serve as pigment medium. Examples include oil paints\, acrylic paints\, watercolor paints\, and the ink in a fountain pen.

DESCRIPTION:Learn Japanese style binding and create your own artist book! This workshop will start off with a brief history about the significance of artist books and their function. After that you’ll start binding your own book with the instruction of host Tracy Hall. Once you have bound your book you are encouraged to decorate it however you see fit\, whether that be drawings\, writing\, or collage\, the choice is yours! The goal of this workshop is to inspire exploration and grow appreciation for bookmaking as a form of self-expression. \nInstructor Bio: Tracy Hall is an artist and practiced bookmaker. She has taught a similar version of this workshop after completing her artist residency with Open AIR Montana in 2021. She has also taught a children’s artist book workshop through Open AIR at the Philipsburg Public Library.

DESCRIPTION:How to whittle a spoon? Sign-up for this class with carpenter Mary Webb and find out how! Mary will teach participants how to mark out and begin the process of carving a blank of wood into what will become a spoon. We will learn about the difference between hard woods and soft woods\, how to identify grain direction and how to use it to your advantage\, how to draw a spoon (i.e. depth of spoon depression\, size of handle\, size of head\, design based off of intended purpose)\, and then start to carve as we bring our spoons out of the wood and into life! \nAt the end of the sessions\, you’ll have made a spoon to feed your curiosity for more wood carving!
